But Barry is the empress

On my recent stroll along the Wales Coast Path I approached Barry from the west which gave me a very different and pleasingly surprising impression of the area.  It also brought me to parts of the town that I hadn't been very aware of from my previous rail visits coming in from the East.  There's a lot more to Barry than Barry Island I discovered.

Llandudno is the Queen of Wales and Rhyl a princess.  But Barry is the empress

I rest my case

Surely Rhyl is the Barry of North Wales?

Sorry it didn’t work out!

I spent the day in Llandudno - the Barry of the North - and had an interesting trip to Great Orme via the very busy tramway. I can thoroughly recommend a visit to the Great Orme Mines to anyone who gets to the top and wonders what to do next…

Sorry, grahame, but I have a previous commitment for tomorrow afternoon: yet another 'taxi run' to collect my brother- and sister-in-law from the airport.

Not a problem in the slightest - disappointed (in a way) that there has been so much going on that the concentration has been on longer term stuff than on promoting a day out from the area in which I live, and with concern here as to whether the trains will run and connect muting enthusiasm.   I will be heading for - well, I'm not certain; it depends on whether trains connect or not.

Tomorrow - but seems to have generated even less public interest that the August town council economic development meeting.    If you plan to join me, please get me know by 07:00 otherwise I may choose another destination.

An invitation to join the West Wiltshire Rail User Group Committee and members on a trip to Barry Island on Saturday 10th August 2024.

Whether you want the beach, the funfair, the promenade and walk around the headland, or the visit to the land of Gavin and Stacey, this is one to join us on.    WWRUG timings to follow - but perhaps an opportunity for members from all over the Coffee Shop area to join the train along the way - planning to be in Barry Island at around 11:30 and return at around 16:30.
