"Elizabeth Line Reading celebrated by adding £42bn to economy"

The success of the Elizabeth Line has been celebrated in Reading, with a call for quicker train services to be introduced.

Admittedly nowadays I hardly ever travel by train east of Reading, but I would have thought that GWR already provide some "quicker" stopping services between Reading and Paddington. I have a friend who opts for these when she visits me in Tilehurst from London on trains that stop at Slough, Maidenhead and Twyford. She prefers these to changing from and to fast trains at Reading.

I believe GWR do provide some faster services to the stations you mention however not many and none to the smaller Thames Valley stations  for which the Elizabeth Line has been transformational in terms of service frequency and reliability as well as in many cases a much more pleasant station environment - at Taplow we even have a Sunday service and working toilets now!

Not sure Taplow had working toilets when this was created:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_into_the_Future
I don't think Wikipedia points out that the cover photo was taken at Taplow station, so I believe.

Two an hour from about 5 am to midnight, plus a few in the small wee hours, although some either end of that period miss Slough. See timetable T10 for details - (file:///C:/Users/nebul/Downloads/T10%20train%20times%202%20June%20to%2014%20December%202024%20(3).pdf)   That's not bad!

As a Goring & Streatley customer, my only complaint is that the service beyond Reading has an evening gap between 21-23 and 22-30 for trains west to Didcot. But I appreciate how lucky I am every time I read the latest cancellation reports on this forum from Melksham or Worcester.
