That's right. Strangely, it appears that the opening itself didn't make it into the papers - but the accident a month later did.

There is an anniversary here - but I'm struggling to find a specific source as to whether it was the East or West side Cliff Railway opening.  The East Hill Cliff Railway, opened in 1902, seems to be the favourite, but my online sources seem to contradict each other.
