Who operates Bee Network services?
Transport for Greater Manchester plans all Bee Network services, which are run under contracts by commercial operators. No matter who runs the service, we expect the same high standards. We answer to you, the passenger.
Phase One Bus: Since 23 September 2023, Go North West and Diamond are running Bee Network buses in Bolton and Wigan, and parts of Bury, Salford and Manchester.
Phase Two Bus: Since 24 March 2024, Stagecoach, First and Diamond are running Bee Network bus services in Oldham, Rochdale, and parts of Bury, Salford and north Manchester.
Phase Three Bus: Metroline, Stagecoach, Diamond and Go North West have been awarded contracts to run Bee Network bus services in Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, and the remaining parts of Manchester and Salford from 5 January 2025.

Metrolink trams: Keolis Amey Metrolink runs local tram services.
Bike: The Starling Bank Bike hire scheme is powered by Beryl.
Train: Local train services will join the Bee Network by 2030, so it’s too soon to say who will operate services in future.
What’s happening next on the Bee Network?
Buses:
Bee Network buses are already running
under local control on 324 routes in Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Wigan and parts of Salford and Manchester.
On 5 January 2025 the remaining bus services in Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and parts of Manchester and Salford will join the Bee Network.
Paying for your journey:
5 January 2025: When all remaining buses join the Bee Network we will introduce a range of ticket improvements, including:
An Annual Adult Bee Bus ticket with savings of up to £240 a year.
A new ‘hopper fare’ will replace single tickets so you can hop on as many buses as you like within one hour.
Cheaper 7-day and 28-day Bee Bus tickets.
23 March 2025: Capped ‘pay as you go’ contactless payments for adults introduced across all Greater Manchester buses and trams.
Trams:
We’re looking at opportunities to expand the Metrolink tram network, with plans for new lines and stops.
We’re also making plans for a new fleet of next generation Metrolink vehicles, that could carry more passengers and have tram-train capability.
Trains
We’re working to bring train services on eight local commuter routes into the Bee Network by 2028.
All local Greater Manchester rail services are expected to join the Bee Network by 2030.
Cycling and walking:
We’re building the
UK’s largest cycling and walking network

A crash between two double-decker buses close to a city centre has left 13 people needing hospital treatment.
Two Bee Network buses crashed on Rochdale Road off Livesey Street, Manchester, but no-one was seriously injured, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.
Images show debris strewn across the highway as one of the vehicles appeared to have hit the back of the other.
A GMP spokesman said the road remained shut while emergency services were at the scene.
Police were called to the incident at about 08:30 GMT.
Manchester councillor Pat Karney, who was at the site, posted on X, external to say there had been "unbelievable damage" to the front of the bus.
