Are things somewhat complicated in that it crosses an international border? I don't think it was that that brought progress to a halt at the most recent attempt, was it that it was stalled in planning?

Do a 'channel tunnel', work from each end and hope to meet in the middle!

And one day, perhaps, the bridge from what's now the Wye Valley Greenway to the Old Station site will be reinstated. There have been several plans over the years but the planning authorities have been rather sceptical. I would love to see the Greenway extend further up the valley.

Tintern, of course, is where tinternet was invented.

I stumbled upon it a few years back during a bit of a yomp down the Wye Valley and thought it to be a delightful use of a relic of the old railway line.

Came up "on this day" for opening on 1st November 1876 and yet another rail based heritage thing we've mentioned in places but not has a specific thread on!

Come and visit the Old Station Tintern. The car park & grounds are open daily 9am - 5pm throughout the year. The tea room, carriages & toilets are open Tuesdays - Sundays 10am - 4pm (closed Monday except Bank Holidays) from 1st April - 31st October.

We look forward to seeing you.

The Old Station nestles beside the River Wye in the heart of the Wye Valley in Tintern. This idyllic 10 – acre site boasts the best of what Monmouthshire has to offer.

The Old Station has developed an excellent reputation as one of the area’s top visitor centres, with our recently refurbished railway carriages offering a host of local information & history, as well as an N-gauge model railway.

Somewhat ironic that here I am quoting on 1st November from a page extolling you to visit, any day except Mondays up to 31st October.
