Are escalators the only form of public transport that people have to join without it stopping for them?

If you watch James Bond films, trains seem to be as well. 

Or the top of a double decker if you remember Marty Feldman commuting in "A Day in the Life of a Stuntman".

Ski lifts - yes, agreed.  I guess I think of a travelator as a flat escalator ...

The first escalator on the London Underground (and on public transport?) was switched on this day (4th October) in 1911, though they had been in use in Harrods and perhaps other places for many years
