Coincidentally, the Beeb had this article about research identifying a surviving building by the Stockton and Darlington as the world's oldest station. Grade II listed now.

The research into Locomotion No 1 has been published following the study commissioned a couple of years back. The oldest part is the boiler, dating from 1827 and from a sister engine.
It is a bit like Trigger’s broom.

I note that there is no event for Sept 27.
However on the 27 th of September 1825 the Stockton and Darlington Railway opened.
It also marks the announcement of plans for the 200th anniversary.
