I would avoid offering any food or drink to to a young child, for obvious reasons, but would consider offering it to the owner of the child.

Bear in mind too that (for good reason) children are (or should be) warned against accepting sweets etc from strangers.
Very much so - what I wrote was in poor jest. The original question was in the context of a child accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Would you share with a hungry child? (Voting closed: May 04, 2023, 08:56:13 am)
Result:
Yes - 3 (15.8%)
Yes, if the delay was a long one - 3 (15.8%)
Yes, in some (other) circumstance - 9 (47.4%)
No - 4 (21.1%)
A good example, I fear of a poorly designed poll with nearly half of the votes case into the "catchall" basket because none of the options suited. Ah well ...
However, if you are a hungry child, it IS worth asking a forum member to share as only 1 in 5 will reject your approach in all circumstances.

It was on a hot day, Port is more of cold weather drink.
I was concerned that the train might be designated "dry" hence taking ready mixed gin and orange juice.

I once offered to a young kid, some orange juice, without properly thinking about this.
My orange juice was about 75% orange juice and about 25% gin. The child slept well for the rest of the journey.

........................I think that kid may have been me - I was actually hoping it was Port!

I'd say yes if it keeps the kid quiet!

A few years ago, I was passing Pinhoe station when I noticed a crippled unit on a Down service stuck on the single track and an Up service waiting in the station. Apparently, both had been there some time and were unable to proceed. It was a hot, sunny day.
Knowing that there were no catering facilities on board the Up service at the platform, I had a quick word with the Guard and jogged home (300 yards from the station) and brought a sack with about 30 bottles of fizzy water back to the train. I handed them out to both youngsters and older folk who wanted them.
I also gave one to the driver and neglected to mention that it was fizzy water! He opened the bottle and, of course the inevitable happened - water sprayed everywhere!
If I had spare food or drink available, I would certainly share if the circumstances dictated.

I’d be worried about giving them something they were allergic to!

It's a slow news day in The Mirror
A woman has been left questioning her morals after she refused to share her snacks with a hungry child while stuck on the subway.
Running this as a poll so you can be honest and not feel you have to give a politically correct answer. But members are welcome to comment if they wish!
