OTD - 20th March 1993 - Warrington Bombing
As at 21st November 2024 12:53 GMT
The "Warrington Bombings" occured on 26th February and 20th March 1993. The first explosion caused extensive damage at a gas storage facility but caused no injuries. The second, two smaller explosions in litter bins, killed two children. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warrington_bombings
All litter bins were removed from stations ... and indeed to this day you'll see transparent rather than black sacks in use in station rubbish bins so that the contents can be seen by anyone passing. It looks messy, but it's a bit more security as you travel.
