When on the train from Southend Victoria last year I noted how close the station was to the airport entrance.  Mind you, back in the 1960s you could take your car onto the plane...the airport was the location for the scene from Goldfinger when said Bond villain's car was loaded onto the plane for Switzerland.

It's excellent - How does that compare to others with dedicated stations such as Southampton and Gatwick on the GWR network?

I reckon it's shorter than Southampton even! - And Gatwick you walk miles still, especially if you need the North terminal.

There are only 5? gates at Southend, so everything is micro-close.

At Southampton it is about 100m from the down platform to the signed departures entrance, then up to about 50m to the furthest check in.
